Kool & The Gang ~ Too Hot 1979 Soul Purrfection Version

You know right from the first note that this was going to be a sad song. The subdued jazz funk orchestration was perfect for the disco crowd, it has this groove thing going on and with a snappy drum arrangement that made it accessible to just about everyone. I was working on Dionne Warwick’s “Deja Vu“ and this Kool & The Gang downtempo tune came back to me. I remember hearing those two tunes one after the other and then followed by Machine’s “Mister Destiny“ an obscure but searchworthy song perfect for a rainy summer night. This one just reached out to me this week with a timely message and I wanted to share it with you in these times. There is a sense of regret throughout this one, but the smokin’ hot rhythm section knew just how to play it so that the vocals really made you listen to the lyrics. The originality of this production infused with sombre tones went right to my heart back in da day. I understood the heartbreak of losing a relationship, and while I wasn&#
