The Perth Mint and Art in Coins is delighted to present The Jewelled Turtle, an exceptional collectable showcasing rare and spectacular treasures from two Western Australian icons – Argyle Pink DiamondsTM and The Perth Mint. Sea turtles are remarkable creatures that have navigated the world’s oceans for millennia. Covering enormous distances to reach their feeding sites, females return home to pristine coastal locations to lay eggs near their own birth site. Males stay at sea for their entire lives, likely somewhere between 50 and 100 years. Stories of these ancient mariners have been told throughout human existence. Integral to the cultures of many coastal communities from Asia and Australia to the Americas, they are revered in mythology and folklore as symbols of longevity, wisdom, patience, endurance, protection and healing. For some, the sea turtle is considered to be the sacred creator of Mother Earth. Struck from 10oz of % pure gold in proof quality, the coin is mounted with a three-dimensional representation of a sea turtle. The 18-carat gold turtle is pave-set with 112 exceptionally rare pink diamonds from the Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia’s Kimberley region. The turtle’s head and limbs are set with 52 natural white diamonds, with an emerald in each eye. The coin has five further natural white diamonds and one Argyle Pink DiamondTM set to the table. Each coin is issued as Australian legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. An important note, the Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia ceased operations in 2020 which means more than 90% of total global supply of these rare colored diamonds is no longer coming to market. If the Jewelled series continues, we anticipate continually higher prices for future releases. Natural white diamonds are set in a ribbon-shaped line symbolising the sea surface, and an Argyle Pink Diamond™ is set at the heart of a stylised sun. Also included in the design is the inscription ‘THE JEWELLED TURTLE 2024’, and a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. The obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, as well as the coin’s weight, purity, and monetary denomination. Unprecedented Packaging: The Jewelled Turtle is presented in prestigious packaging including a robust carry case which opens to reveal a magnificent luxury display case, in which the coin is housed. The coin rests within a perspex panel that rotates 360 degrees and is illuminated by a row of lights to maximize the effect of the glittering diamonds. The doors of the display case feature two 18-carat gold plates with an Argyle pink diamond on each side. The case also features an individually numbered 18-carat rose gold plaque, which corresponds to the Certificate of Authenticity.
