Holy Smoke - Synth Pop Iron Maiden Cover

This is a cover version of the Iron Maiden song Holy Smoke from the album No Synth Pop for the Dying. No guitars here! Yes, I know it would’ve made more sense to cover Somewhere in Time as synth pop but I felt that would’ve been rather too obvious. Also, as with The Drone Factor previously, I like taking on under-appreciated Maiden albums rather than ones widely accepted as classics, and of all the classic-era (1980-1992) releases no other album is as widely disliked as No Prayer for the Dying. Whether it’s the production or the “evil Bruce” vocals, people have found much to complain about it over the years. Not me. I love this album and always have. Hot take: it is actually the last truly classic Iron Maiden album and one of the reasons is because it still adheres to the vinyl format; the songs are short and punchy and never get boring.
