February 1987 - May 1987
With Lioness Asuka back in action, the main angle of 1987 is the race between her and Chigusa Nagayo to win the WWWA Singles Title/the Red Belt. They’re not enemies and still tag with each other occasionally (this period is sometimes described as the Crush Gals ’breaking up’, which isn’t really accurate), but they’re no longer gunning for tag team gold as singles success is now the priority. This mostly covers 3 big shows AJW ran in early 1987. Kawasaki Gymnasium on 2/26, Ota Ward on 4/15 and Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium (now known as Edion Arena) on 4/27.
Some time before this video, Yasuko Ishiguro leaves Gokuaku Domei and is now a plain babyface.
The earliest Japan Grand Prix match I can find is on 3/21(I’m not sure if that’s the actual start), the finals are on 6/28 which we’ll get to in the next video.
This the closest I’ll come to giving a content warning for this set: the 4/27 tag title match is indeed that match with the infamous piledriver. Couldn’t not include it.
Here are the contents of the video with timestamps. I can’t provide this without some slight spoilers, so if you wanna watch without major clues on how things unfold, maybe just don’t read it :)
