Almost a couple of decades and 26 million views later it’s time to revisit an animation I did that seems to have found a rather epic global stage I never anticipated when I hit the upload button back in 2006.
Topping the insanity and humour of the original was always going to be a challenge however Lady Liability 2 has been empowered on another level.
Keep an eye on the comments, it’s just a matter of time before someone figures out what is going on here.
Always a lot of questions about why people are being thrown out of Lady Liabilities torch but long long ago there was actually a period in time when people could reach viewing platforms in the torch via ladders in the arm and this is a play on that idea but with a little creative licence involved.
Oddly enough the real catalyst for creating this video was exactly the same as the original Statue of Liability.
To further explore a method of animating 2D graphics with a 3D system and getting some benefit from sophisticated articulation and inverse kinematics that 3D systems have.
This is why our guitarist Jaz is distinctly lacking a 3rd dimension but hopefully still looking dynamic enough for her role.
16 years on this is using vastly more complex articulation and rigging which Blender 3D has proven to be remarkably accommodating to the obscure task thrown at it.
The original shocked, humoured, confused and disturbed countless people across the planet.
Crank up the volume to eleven and then look a little closer:)

A big shout out to....
Sophie Lloyd and her management for generously letting me build my animation around her remarkable souring version of Boston’s hit song ’More than a feeling’
Hannah Rosie, who voluntarily delivered some great art from my loose brief for a goth-esk steam punk rock star guitarist and absolutely nailed it with her incarnation of ’Jaz’
Special thanks to Ton Roosendaal and his amazing development team for giving us Blender, once just a little community based 3D graphics oddity it’s well on the way to becoming an industry odyssey, open source and free to any one who wants to run with it. After decades of professional experience wrangling with many 3D graphics platforms Blender has become my weapon of choice for the foreseeable future.
