Salvatore Cardillo (1874--1947) was the Italian songwriter whose richly scored sentimental Napuletano classic “Core ’N’grato“ (“Ungrateful heart“) written in 1911 for Enrico Caruso, has remained a staple of the Italian tenor concert repertoire, having been recorded by Franco Corelli, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Dalmacio Gonzalez, Jerry Hadley and Pavarotti. The actor and tenor singer Dominic Chianese gave a rendition of “Core ’N’grato“ on the third-season finale of The Sopranos (episode 3x13, “Army of One“).
