In Rajasthan, Ghoomar is a very popular dance. This dance has many variations depending on who is performing. When the dance is performed by the Sanasis or the Bhils, it is called the Gher Ghoomar. This is performed by both men and women. It is also performed in the sophisticated rural communities; however, performed only by women.
Ghoomar can be related to the word “Ghoomna“, meaning turning or whirling. This dance mainly involves whirling movements. The women wear the long-pleated skirts and when they dance gracefully in circular movements, it becomes a feast to the eyes.
