Mega Man X - Storm Eagle Perfect Run (No Damage, Uncharged Buster-Only, No Upgrades)

In our first gameplay video of the year, we take on a Perfect Run of Storm Eagle from Mega Man X, my favorite Maverick from the game. I think this may be one of a few Perfect Runs in the Mega Man X series as it is much easier to take damage in these games than in the Classic games. That being said, this was a tricky one to complete, taking about a grand total of 45 minutes. One thing that made this challenge tough is the lack of a dash. From Mega Man X2 onward, you have the ability to dash by default for a greater sense of speed, but as this is a Perfect Run and Mega Man X has the dash as an upgrade, I couldn’t have equipped, making Storm Eagle a whole lot tougher, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. The level itself isn’t too bad, all things considered, as most of it consists of taking out enemies on hovering platforms before using them to advance. However, the flying claw enemies were quite annoying. If they grab you, they’ll hold on to you for a bit before self-destructing and damaging you. I believe they can be taken out with Charge Shots, but again, this is a Perfect Run and I can’t do that, so the only option left is to restart if you get caught. One claw in particular that caused a lot of trouble was the one at 2:25. Almost all of the time, when you start to scale the platform needed to cross, the claw will keep dropping down to try and grab hold of you. The only viable strategy I could use here was to keep wall jumping off of the platform, letting the claw lower itself repeatedly. When there was a moment that the claw moved itself back up, I quickly passed under it before it dropped down again, just narrowly avoiding it. It can be a bit nerve-wracking, but if you have the timing down, you’ll be alright. Finally, we have ourselves the battle against Storm Eagle. If you check the timestamps during the video, you’ll notice that it takes approximately 3 minutes for me to defeat him uncharged buster-only. This one was a real test of patience and persistence. Storm Eagle has a plethora of tricks up his sleeves that can really get in your way. The main problems here were the two moves he uses to try and push you off of his airship. If you have the dash equipped, they’re not too annoying, but if you don’t have them, they can spell certain death. His first and more frequent move is to flap his wings and blow air. The only thing you can do here is keep running towards him and hope for the best. The farther you are from the edge of the ship, the better, but in cases like 4:24, you better pray that he gives up on time. The second wind-based move is his weapon, the Storm Tornado. When he fires it forward, it will really push you back if you’re idle, so jump and move towards him to resist the attack. His next attacks aren’t as bad, but are still pretty pesky. Occasionally, he’ll spit out an egg that releases four birds that try to fly into you when it hits the ground. Your best bet is to jump over them at the right moment, but shooting the first two birds in your line of fire can make this attack easier to dodge. His last attack is to try and swoop in from the upper corners of the screen and hit you. This attack can be easily avoided if you just keep running forward, but be sure to start running in the other direction if you know that you are close to the edge of the ship. You can also try to get a few shots in when you can, here, but it can be a bit risky as you might end up hitting him when trying to attack (believe me, it was the cause of many losses). Outside of that, make every moment Storm Eagle is vulnerable count (particularly when he starts to blow wind at you) and fire away until he is defeated. Created using WeVideo.
