Recorded last year on analogue reel to reel tape at Sound Recordings in Campbells Creek, VIC, CANDY is about the familiar experience of a touring musician – a fleeting romance you find while on the road, as singer and keyboardist Nick Armstrong explains, “When you eventually see they’ve moved on and are happy, you can’t help but be a little bit disappointed! But passing flings can’t last, and you have to accept it. That’s what this song is about.“
In terms of the sonics of the track, the band wanted “a song that captured the faster, louder side of Americana/country tinged rock n roll.“ They definitely nail that goal with the song hurtling along with unbridled energy, swagger and verve. Guitar solos dive-bomb across the drums, bass and piano rhythm section as the urgent vocal – part David Johansen (New York Dolls), part Paul Westerberg (The Replacements), part Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes) – tumbles forth.
