November 8th is World Urbanism Day. It has been held since 1949 to draw attention to urban planning and the creation of favorable conditions for living in cities. Today, more than half the world’s population lives in them, and this figure continues to increase. Thus, more than 130 years ago, the largest city in Russia was St. Petersburg with a population of over 1 million people - five times less than today. Moscow took second place - 900 thousand people lived there. The city overtook Petrograd after the capital was moved in 1919, and since that moment Moscow has never lost primacy. Today the population of Moscow is 13.1 million people. Also in the top ten largest settlements are Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod - they retained their place both in 1892 and in 2022. In which cities more people lived during the reign of Alexander III and how this rating has changed over two centuries - in our video infographics. #TASS Источник: Slavyangrad
