Use a scrap surface - By repurposing a surface or using a scrap surface, we can often feel less rigid and loosen up a bit when painting. 2. Create a bold underpainting - Use a bold color to tone the whole surface or have some fun with a few colors. Add water or alcohol to pastels and turn the surface to let the color drip and run to create interesting shapes. 3. Use creative color or colors you don’t normally use - Give those poor little colors a try that rarely get used in your palette! 4.
