Australia Flags Chinese Bid To Block Journalist During Premier Li’s Visit, Beijing Says “Don’t Know“
Australia voiced concern about the “ham-fisted“ actions of two Chinese diplomats at a media event inside the Parliament during Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s visit. Chinese officials were accused of blocking Australian journalist Cheng Lei as Australian PM Anthony Albanese and the Chinese premier signed agreements on June 17. The bizarre incident was caught on camera with Australian officials trying to stop their Chinese counterparts from obstructing Cheng’s view. At one point Cheng jokingly swapped seats with another journalist , which prompted Chinese officials to reposition to hinder her view, Australia’s ABC news reported. Meanwhile, The Chinese foreign ministry denied knowledge of any incident involving Australian journalist Cheng Lei in Canberra.
