Advancements in surgery and engineering enabled the control of every finger of a bionic hand
For the first time, a person with an arm amputation can control every finger of a bionic hand as if it was his own. This is thanks to novel surgical and engineering advancements merging humans with machines. A study in Science Translational Medicine presents the first documented case of a patient whose body was surgically modified to incorporate implanted sensors, which then allowed connecting a hand prosthesis to his neuromusculoskeletal system.
