Cell Membrane Bubble Lab

Learn about the properties of the cell membrane with a hands on bubble lab! Make the bubble solution using dish soap, corn syrup and water. Then construct a square out of straws and a circle out of string and you’re ready to go! Dish Soap: Corn Syrup: Straws: Bins: Demonstrations show how the cell membrane is fluid and flexible, material can pass through channels or directly through the membrane, the cell has membrane-bound organelles, cells can communicate and the membrane aids in replication. This is a great introductory lab to get students engaged and motivated, or great for reinforcing concepts they have already talked about.
