N-gon/Boolean Modeling in Blender - Excercise 001
In this video we will be using N-gon/Boolean modeling in Blender to create a highly detailed and realistic-looking object that is based on a CAD model I found on Grabcad a while ago.
The tutorial is step by step and shows everything from adding the first cube to the final model. Nonetheless, I think you’ll enjoy it more if you already know some Blender basics. This video is not aimed at complete beginners.
You can skip to the chapters of the video by clicking on the following time stamps:
You can download the reference object (which is an .obj file) I’m using in the video here:
modeling - excercise ?dl=0
Grabcad is a great site for references, especially for technical and industrial ones. All the models there can be downloaded for free. All you need is a free Grabcad account. The models available there, however, are all provided in CAD formats that cannot be imported in Blender. You will need additional software (like MoI 3D or other CAD software) to convert them into obj or fbx formats that you can use in Blender. Here’s the link to Grabcad:
I will be using a number of addons in this video. Some of them ship with Blender, and I will explain those in the video.
Free addons used in this video:
Machin3Tools:
Bagapie:
Commercial addons used in this video
(these are not required to complete the tutorial, but they will make things quite a bit easier):
MeshMachin3:
QOL Select Contiguous Edges:
Power Select:
