Hailing from Cologne in Germany, Rüdiger Schulz adopted the name “Purple” because of his love of the UK band, Deep Purple. He played in a band named D’accord in the 70s but his music career took off when he helped form the new wave band, Neue Heimat in the early 80s. His future collaborator, Josef Piek was also a member. Their first album was “Die Harte” in 1982. In 1985 and as Purple Schulz und die Neue Heimat, the band scored a #20 hit on the German album chart with “Hautnah”. The single pulled from the album, “Sehnsucht” reached #6 and was Mr. Schulz’s highest placed single.
More hit albums and singles followed but, except for Holland, it dosen’t look as if any of them were released outside of the German speaking world. “Haha” was released in 1992 and it became his sixth album to hit the charts. “Bis Ans Ende Der Welt” (“To The End Of The World”) was a track on the album, clocking in at 04,45.
