Sir Edward William Elgar, born in Worcestershire, England in 1857 was an English composer, many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire. Among his best-known compositions are orchestral works including the “Enigma Variations“, the “Pomp and Circumstance“ marches, concertos for violin and cello, and two symphonies. He also composed chamber music and songs. His choral works include “The Dream of Gerontius“.
Elgar died in 1934 at the age of 76. He is buried next to his wife at St Wulstan’s Roman Catholic Church in Little Malvern. [Wikipedia]
