Rayleigh Benard Cells

Rayleigh Benard Cells are observed in hot oil in a tilted petri dish. At the low end the oil level is 4mm and at the upper end it reaches zero. The video has a time lapse factor of 6x. Two types of oil are in the dish and they do not mix completely so that the one with higher convection marks the bright spots. These are special Rayleigh Benard Cells, which form and then move to the upper side of the picture where the fluid level is low.
