Created in Biarritz, in the gardens of the Hôtel de Silhouette, residence of Etienne de Silhouette, comptroller general of finances under Louis XV, gave his name to the portraits cut out from the shadow of the face, probably because his reforms tended to leave to the taxpayers only the shadow of their fortune. This solo, set for the dancer Frederik Deberdt, is a miniature through which passes the shadow of Vaslav Nijinsky.

Malandain ballet Biarritz
Thierry Malandain relies on pages from the Stabat Mater and on Antonio Vivaldi’s Estro armonico Op.3, an ’over-vitamined’ score, almost subject to the tyranny of always more, hence the temptation to call this ballet: is it too much?
Thierry Malandain creates around the desire for elevation and the efforts to be made to reach the summit, referring to the words of André Lendger: ’it is easier today to climb an 8000 meter peak than to climb a few centimeters inside oneself.

Vestiges ’of a black day sadder than the nights’ would have said Charles Baudelaire, Nocturnes presents itself like a fresco, like a dream crushed under the weight of an eternal melancholy.
