For those who like to do hobbies , art and crafts at home, easy-to-make miniature chalet and tiny houses that can be hung on the wall. I use XPS styrofoam sheets in miniature and diorama making and in many artistic works. In this video, I used this different material to make miniature houses. Although diorama creators know this material well, some people have not discovered it yet. Therefore, I need to give brief information. Because I would like to help those who want to make the creative designs I make on my channel. XPS styrofoam panel has a hardness level according to its density. It is sold in the market in three different thicknesses: 1cm, 2cm and 5cm. The sheet size is generally 120 cm x 60 cm. It is sold on the internet and in DIY stores. I work with the variety that has a density of 30-32. If you want to buy it, you should consider its density. Because low density XPS styrofoam sheet will never be of use to us. It breaks apart when cutting, and it is very difficult to fill the pores when painting. I would never recommend it. I use PVA glue as styrofoam adhesive, but special styrofoam adhesive glue is also sold. Since its structure is not resistant to solvents such as acetone etc. It cannot be adhered with adhesives containing . It can only be glued with water-based glue. To harden, a hot blow dryer or a hot air gun on a low setting can be used before painting. Or, when painting over it like I did, it is possible to harden it by adding half and half of the glue to your paint. The glue will change the color of the acrylic paint. Therefore, after painting with 2 layers of glue, paint only the top layer with acrylic paint. You can use fine sandpaper after the glued layer dries to remove any roughness on the surface. If you want your artistic product to be harder and more durable, you can cover the Styrofoam you have shaped with a thin layer of air-drying dough. It is a very useful material for 3D designs. Another thing to consider when making various designs from styrofoam is that the utility knife you will use is sharp and has a clean tip. As you know, it is a partially soft material before processing. You can also choose a hot wire machine for cutting. I personally did not see the need for this, I did not try it. My own thought; There may be many cutting errors. That’s why I continue to cut with a utility knife. The painting layers you see in the videos are equivalent to wood painting. So for example; If you paint a paintable raw wooden MDF box, you need to apply 4 layers of paint and 2-3 layers of varnish. Actually, I apply the same process on styrofoam and the result is satisfactory. Your object made of styrofoam is durable as long as it is not bruised by pressing a hard object. It is no different from a soft wooden material. That’s all, dear friends. If you have any other questions, write them in the comments. Love to all of you.
