Log Cabin Bird House

How to build your own Log Cabin Bird House with green roof. Before anyone accuses me of cutting down trees to build a bird house I didn’t!! The sticks I used were all from trees that had been blown down when storm Ophelia passed over Ireland on the 16th October 2017. This project is more about taking your time and enjoying the process of building something with just hand tools. The wood I collected was about 18 - 24 mm in diameter and the other wood was some pallet wood I had laying around. I decided to go with the green roof as i think it fits better with the look of the cabin style. I used some polythene to protect the wood and stapled on some chicken wire to hopefully prevent the earth from sliding. I am not too sure how well the green roof will survive over time. It should be fine for all the seasons except maybe for the summer months as i fear it will dry out without watering but then again Irish summers can be quite wet also. There is plenty of ventilation in the bird house and i used a minimal amount of glue to help hold the joints together. To gain access for cleaning the pins i used to hold the floor in place will have to be removed. This will not be a big job to do when the time tools used in the project were a hammer, hand saw, tenon saw, utility knife, a hatchet and staple gun. I hope you enjoy it and hopefully it may inspire you to make one yourself! Always be careful using tools and machinery!! Music: YouTube audio library.
