He was born as John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England as one of 6 siblings (3 sisters, 2 brothers). He got the nickname ’Ozzy’ in primary school where he also dealt with dyslexia. Ozzy became a fan of the Beatles when he was about 14 years ago and credits the song ’She Loves You’ for inspiring him to become a musician. In late 1967 Geezer Butler formed his band Rare Breed and invited Osbourne to serve as vocalist. They soon broke up, but re-formed another band that was finally named Black Sabbath in August 1969 based on the film of the same title. They released their self-titled debut album in February of 1970 and peaked at #8 in the UK, Germany and Australia and reached the Top 30 in the USA. In September of the same year they released their 2nd album ’Paranoid’ which peaked at #1 in the UK (a feat they would only accomplish 43 years later again). The album peaked at #12 in the USA and was certified 4-times platinum. The single with the same name became their only Top 10
