Alice Cooper Only Women Bleed HQ with Lyrics in Description

Track 5 from his debut solo album “Welcome to My Nightmare“ released in 1975 copyright Warner Bros. Records. It was recorded at Soundstage Studios in Toronto and the Record Plant, Electric Lady and A&R Studios in New York. After recording and touring for their last album “Muscle of Love“ the original band members were exhausted by their new lifestyle and needed a break. They went their separate ways and drifted apart without a plan to regroup. Alice reconnected with their former producer Bob Ezrin who had a significant hand in creating the monster that was Alice Cooper and they decided to begin work on a solo project together. They hired Lou Reed’s live band and began to write and record. Guitarists Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter had worked with Cooper and Ezrin on “Billion Dollar Babies.“ Wagner and Ezrin also contributed substantially as songwriters for this one. Wagner pulled the music for the ballad “Only Women Bleed“ out of his closet and the song was re-worked with Alice adding new lyrics. The single reached No. 10 on Billboard and No. 1 in Canada. It’s burned into my mind for eternity and it brings back so many great memories of the best moments as a teenager, a lot involving my girlfriend and being in her bedroom, if you catch my drift! Sorry. The great horror movie villain Vincent Price made a cameo with his narration as the curator of an evil museum. Michael Jackson would later “borrow“ this idea for his “Thriller“ album, which became the biggest selling album of all time. The live shows on the tour that followed were expensive, ultra-theatrical extravaganzas to say the least. The album received mixed reviews at the time with many critics saying that without the original band, the music had lost its edge and was too commercial. I must admit I was in agreement with them at the time. It reached No. 24 in New Zealand, No. 23 in Finland, No. 5 in Australia and the U.S. and No. 4 in Canada. It achieved Gold status within a few months and was certified Silver in the U.K., Platinum in the U.S. and 2X Platinum in Australia and Canada.
