Pi’i Ke Kai - Kumu Hula Keali`i Ceballos

Kumu Hula Keali`i Ceballos taught this dance during E Pili Kakou Hula Festival. The story talks about the final battle between the fire goddess Pele and the sea goddess Namakaokahai. Namakaokahai, Pele’s older sister, realized Pele was still alive and she went to Maui to do battle. Finally, the epic battle ended near Hana, Maui, where Pele was torn apart by her sister. Legend says her bones remain as a hill called Ka-iwi-o-Pele.
