Sir John Gielgud plays Cyril Boggis, a rogue antique dealer who travels around the country posing as a clergyman, and describing himself as President of the ’Society for the Preservation of Rare Furniture’. Cyril makes a handsome living by buying up valuable antiques cheap and selling them onto rich, successful London antique dealers. One day Boggis calls on old Farmer Rummins and buys an old piece of furniture worth an absolute fortune. However, as in all Tales of the Unexpected, a cruel twist crosses the path of the shady vicar.
