Wolves v Manchester United, FA Cup 5th Round, 5th March 1966

Extended highlights of the FA Cup 5th Round tie between Wolves and Manchester United at Molineux on 5th March 1966. The size of the task that faced Second Division Wolves that day was emphasised by the inclusion in the United team of Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best. Charlton and Best were prominent in the defeat of Benfica in the European Cup Final just over two years later, with Nobby Stiles, Bill Foulkes, Tony Dunne, Shay Brennan and Paddy Crerand also present on that occasion and in Matt Busby’s team for the match against Wolves. United, defending champions of the First Division that season, also included in their side the prolific forward David Herd who scored an impressive total of 33 league and cup goals during their 1965-66 campaign. Wolves, managed by Ronnie Allen, subsequently finished sixth at the conclusion to their Second Division campaign before gaining promotion the following season.
