Mercy Street’s Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Tara Summer, and Hannah James visited the Contrabands and Freedmen Cemetery Memorial, which was the burial site in 1864-1869 for about 1,800 African Americans who fled to Alexandria to escape from bondage.
