Air School (1950)

Heston, Middlesex. Various good shots show air stewardesses in training at the BOAC Air School. The instructors use the body of an aeroplane to teach the girls in the appropriate surroundings. Trainee air hostesses look inside the aeroplane kitchen to see a girls learning how to arrange food nicely on plates and cut tomatoes and fruit into flowers and baskets (rather different from today’s tv-dinner food on airlines). The women then go into the main part of the plane and are shown to their seats and looked after by other trainees. They put blankets on the laps of passengers and one girl is shown how to hold a tray high to avoid colliding with a passing passenger in the gangway. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
