Before Opeth recorded Ghost Reveries, Mikael Åkerfeldt recorded an album’s worth of demos. Some of this music was used on later albums (e.g. the “boogie“ breakdown in The Lotus Eater), while other pieces have been lost to time.
This is one of those pieces, with a working title of ak/Wulitzer. It was just an idea - possibly for a Ghost Reveries interlude - but it holds the same magic that was captured throughout one of Opeth’s most incredible albums.
Interestingly, a clip of this track was used in the “Making of Ghost Reveries“ DVD. The story here is that Mikael originally wanted to use copyrighted material (a 70s used to know this, but can’t remember anymore!). For copyright purposes, the decision was taken to replace those audio gaps with parts of this song.
Lastly: it’s important to share that I reconstructed this track based on my own research and knowledge of the composition. There may be variations in the final version that was recorded.
