Wèrè Ni: He Is a Mad Man (1963) | The Management of Psychiatric Disorder by the Yorùbá People
Having been shaken to my core (for whatever reason) by the story of England’s King George (after watching what I thought was going to be a light-hearted and mostly inaccurate re-enactment of what his life was like- “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story“), I doom-scrolled to see what I could find on the matter within the Yorùbá context. I found the documentary that I’ve included in this video, provided by Dotun Oniyakuya of the Oniwokuwo Archives [a sub-section of Nigeria In Videos].
Although several parts of the narration are Eurocentric and inaccurate, the footages are interesting to watch and observe.
Thank you so much for watching and for your support.
