Uncle Henry LB8 Papa Bear “try stick“ Schrade + steel
Growing up in the heyday of folding hunter knives, aka the ubiquitous “Buck Knife,“ which is what we called all knives similar to the Buck 110, seemingly adorned EVERY belt. They were as much of a fashion statement as they were a useful tool. There were MANY copies, but a few that could rival a real Buck 110. The Schrade Uncle Henry LB8 Papa Bear was one of those.
I found the LB8 to be slightly more comfortable in the hand than the 110’s of that era. It was thicker and more rounded. I also found the “Staglon“ to be quite attractive. If I recall correctly they were priced similarly, which made the choice more difficult as for me it was 2 or 3 days’ pay.
After nearly three decades it was time to see how well the LB8 stood the test of time. Honestly I was quite impressed. It took and held a very good edge. It still felt great in the hand and I still think it looks great. IF I still had to pick between a standard Buck 110 and an Uncle Henry LB8... it would be a difficult choice. Luckily, I can now afford to enjoy both.
