Similarities Between Serbian and Persian

In this episode, we compare Serbian and Persian, exploring the similarities between the two languages. The commonalities between these two Indo-European languages may surprise many people. Serbian is the official language of Serbia, and one of the three official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a minority language in Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. There are many Persian words that have entered the Serbian vocabulary as a result of the Ottoman rule over the region which led to a linguistical contact between Turkish and South Slavic. During this period many Persian words which had entered the Turkish vocabulary would subsequently enter South Slavic languages.
