U.S. intelligence: Taliban could take Afghan capital within 90 days after rapid gains

For more: Taliban have reportedly captured another major city in Afghanistan. Ghazni is the 10th provincial capital to fall to the group in a week. It’s just 150 kilometers from the capital Kabul. The Taliban captured three more provincial capitals and a local army headquarters on Wednesday. They have conquered two-thirds of the country. President Ashraf Ghani rushed to Balkh province, which is already surrounded by Taliban-held territory, to seek help pushing back the militants. A U.S. defense official has cited U.S. intelligence as saying the Taliban could isolate the capital Kabul in 30 days and possibly take it over within 90.
