The President - Wayne Horvitz w/ Bill Frisell, Elliot Sharp - Tin Pan Alley April 12, 1987

[Note: the date in the graphic is incorrect; the correct date is April 12, 1987] The President was a band Wayne Horvitz has had over the years in different iterations. This version, with Bill Frisell and Elliot Sharp, recorded an album for the German Dossier label in 1987. I saw them live that year at a small bar in midtown Manhattan, in an audience of about 100 people, at which i recorded this tape. The highlight of this set for me is One Bright Day, where the band does more of a minimalist thing than rock and roll. This is the only context outside of a John Zorn project where I saw Frisell and Sharp play together. This is as close to a rock and roll band as Bill Frisell has played in that I am aware of.
