Rescued turtles return to sea on Valentine’s Day in heartwarming moment
Two rescued sea turtles made a splash in Key West, Fla., on Tuesday as people gathered to witness their release back into the wild just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Dubbed “Port” and “Starboard,” the green sea turtles survived a condition known as fibropapillomatosis for which they braved tumour removal surgeries and received broad-spectrum antibiotics, vitamins and fluids.
Turtle Hospital Manager staff released “Port,” now weighing 20 pounds (nine kilos), and “Starboard,” at 50 pounds (22 kilos), as they were recently deemed to be in good health, three months since they were found.
Crowds cheered the turtles on from Key West’s Higgs Beach as they made their way into the open sea once again.
