“The Search“ was a CBS non-fiction TV program that aired in the early 1950s. In this episode, narrated by Charles Romine, a mother visits the Johns Hopkins University Hearing and Speech Center (now the Department of Audiology) to get her son’s hearing issue diagnosed. The episode shows how doctors conduct different tests on the child to determine his specific issue, and the steps that are taken to improve his situation. The mother is also taken around the Center to see children and adults receive hearing training. At the end of the episode, the child is fitted with a hearing aid -- most likely one that used transistors -- and it is shown how he reacts to different types of sound.
