Eyjafjallajokull - pronounced ay-uh-fyat-luh-yoe-kuutl-ul - is the name of Iceland’s volcano that threw up plumes of ash clouds causing airspaces across Europe to close down.
Icelanders have frequently pointed out the rest of the world’s mispronunciations of the volcano’s name, which has been described as “strange“ even by native Icelanders.
Eliza Geirsdottir Newman, an Icelandic musician, sang an exclusive song to Al Jazeera to helped clarify the word’s correct pronunciation.
