These sensors are built into the wheelchair’s frame and connect to motors fitted to the axle ports where the wheels are connected. The wheelchair was created with the help of a $500,000 development grant from the Mobility Unlimited Challenge and in December 2020 Phoenix Instinct were announced winners of the $1 million prize fund. Phoenix Instinct believe that the Phoenix i, the first lightweight wheelchair embedded with smart technologies, is set to change the wheelchair as we know it.
