Europe NOW! Austria’s Towns Devastated by Floods!

On June 8th, a severe storm with heavy rain caused major flooding in Austria, particularly affecting the town of Deutschfeistritz north of Graz. The region received over 3.9 inches of rainfall, and the torrential downpour quickly turned streams into raging torrents. Residents of the town, with a population of 4,000, were asked to stay indoors due to the life-threatening danger. After the heavy rain, the Bösebach River overflowed its banks. The flooding swept away cars and damaged homes. Several people from Bösebach, whose homes were cut off from the outside world, were evacuated by plane. In Neudau, Styria, a nursing home had to be evacuated as it was submerged. The storm also destroyed or made several polling stations for the European elections inaccessible, especially in Deutschfeistritz and the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district. A landslide occurred on the highway near Graz, with masses of earth and debris causing road closures until at least Monday. Some smaller roads remain close
