Today is Gerard’s 59th birthday.
Gerard Jan Joling (Alkmaar, April 29, 1960) is a Dutch singer and television presenter. He was a dancer for the TopPop program before he broke through in the eighties with the single ’Ticket to the tropics’. In addition to his solo career, Joling has been part of De Toppers since 2005. In 1988 he was the Dutch participant in the Eurovision Song Contest. In addition to his presentation work for various television programs, he acts as the protagonist in reality television programs and judges in talent shows on television. TV shows in which he performed include ’Sterren op het ijs’, Holland’s Got Talent, Popstars and The Voice Senior. Since 2013, Joling has been working as an ambassador for the National Elderly Fund in addition to his career.

TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted the show for its first fifteen years.
