ZX Spectrum Next printing Tasword document to my Wi-Fi printer

For sometime now I have been struggling with a dilemma. My MultiPrint centronics interface works fine printing to my HP Envy Wi-Fi printer with my real Spectrums and Retroprinter device. However, getting the Multiprint to work on my NEXT requires architectural and programming knowledge I don’t have and would take me a very lot of time and effort. My Spectrum NEXT has a good quality VGA monitor attached to it, whereas my real Spectrums only have smaller composite LCDs, due to having very limited space in my home office. I was fast reaching the point where I was considering boxing up my NEXT so I could set up one of my real Spectrums with the VGA monitor! Whilst facing this desperate prospect I thought I would try something that does’nt work between real Spectrums. I connected the NEXT tape Save to tape out to the real Spectrum’s tape Load in. To my surprise with the Spectrum in LOAD ““ I could SAVE ““ a program from the NEXT to send it directly into the Spectrum rather like using the IF1 Network connection So my printing workaround is simple. Load up Tasword in the NEXT, and write my text. When finished then Load Tasword on my real Spectrum and command it to Load a document from tape. Then save the document I have written on my NEXT as if it was to be saved to tape, and it is sent to Tasword on my real Spectrum which Loads it up. I can then print the document out on my HP Envy Wi-Fi printer using my real Spectrum via the Multi-Print and RetroPrinter set up I have. I can also save the document to microdrive (vDriveZX) on my real Spectrum Since the document format is the same for 48K and 128k Tasword III, I can use the 128K version on the NEXT and the 48K version on my real 48K Spectrum. (I could also use my Toast Racks) I often confront frustrating “gotchas“ with my machines, but this time the unexpected worked almost miraculously. Yippee! :-) :-)
