Game Recap: Penguins vs. Sabres () | Casey DeSmith’s 24-Save Shutout

The 1st period came and went, with neither team scoring a goal. Then, in the 2nd, on the Penguins’ first power-play opportunity, Jake Guentzel made the Sabres pay. Only 13 seconds in to the man-advantage, Guentzel batted his own rebound out of the air to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. Guentzel registered eight shots on goal against the Sabres, establishing a new career single-game high. Sidney Crosby and Mark Jankowski would also add empty-net tallies, but Guentzel’s goal would be all the Penguins would need to be victorious. Casey DeSmith came up big for the Penguins, stopping all 24 Buffalo shots to earn Pittsburgh’s first shutout of the season.
