The Swing Ninjas - Salad Days (Official Music Video) Brighton

Brighton’s SWING NINJAS are a 9 piece New Orleans style vintage swing big band. Known on YouTube as the band behind fellow Brightonians’ THE SPEAKEASY THREE (When I get Low, I get High/Minnie the Moocher), their sound evolved over many years from a walk-about busking trio doing cover versions to a fuller line-up playing originals. ’Salad Days’ is taken from the bands 3rd album ’Do Ya Hallelujah?’ (their first of wholly self-penned material) and the video features both lyrics and the idiosyncratic dance stylings of a regular at the band’s Mesmerist residency (alongside bands like the afore-mentioned Speakeasy Three and Flashmob Jazz.) The album features assorted guests and backing singers and comes across like a mash up between Squirrel Nut Zippers, True Detective, Pokey LaFarge and Graham Green. It’s a blackly humorous and distinctly British gumbo of wry songs about life, lust & penitence that has been garnering well-deserved praise in the music press. OUT NOW
