Amazing Nature and Animal Sounds by Human Voice by Yuliyana
I’m very excited to introduce Yakut traditional Ethnic music with throat singing and jaw harp which is called “Khomus“ in Yakutia.
The music was performed by the very talented virtuoso Yuliyana Krivoshapkina who makes beautiful animal and nature sounds (horses, birds, wolves, wind, etc.) all by her voice.
❓What is throat-singing?
In throat-singing, a singer can produce two or more notes simultaneously through specialized vocalization technique taking advantage of the throat’s resonance characteristics. By precise movements of the lips, tongue, jaw, velum, and larynx, throat-singers produce unique harmonies using only their bodies.
❓What is a jew harp?
The khomus is a type of jaw harp that is traditionally used by shamans in Yakutia as a healing instrument. The Yakut khomus still retains its sacred meaning and is used in various rituals. In Yakutia it is not just a tool, but a real symbol of the culture of the Yakut people.
